FLYING START
1992
KLM FLIGHT ACADEMY, EELDE, HOLLAND
5,60 METER LONG
RED COPPER

Flying Start in fact is a mixed form of both a wing and an airstrip because this sculpture was placed at the Flight Academy for KLM pilots. Their preparation for a career in aviation also means a flying start. They should always remember their study and practising. But they also will control the wings of their future planes after their study. The red copper is attached to the frame in the same way as wings are being constructed. In its simple form the sculpture relates to the style of the architecture.
