SEASCAPE
1988
TOWN HALL, DELFZIJL, HOLLAND
6 X 25 X 8 METER
BASALT, RED COPPER, BRONZE, WHITE GRANITE AND PAVEMENT

The coastal city of Delfzijl has this sculpture as the entrance to their town hall. It has many references to the sea. It shows high dolphins made of basalt which is normally used to strengthen the Dutch dykes. From white granite crests of waves are placed on the steps and the pavement has forms and colours that make it look like a dyke with a beach. On the mirroring glass of the facade seagulls fly. They are also attached and one even hanging on the inside of the building. So looking at them from the outside or the inside will show a totally different composition. All these ingredients that refer to harbour activities and the sea make this sculpture to a 3 dimensional Seascape showing the dynamics of Delfzijl.
