In earlier days the Northern part of Holland and Germany was mainly farmland. There a Pedlar was a kind of salesman carrying his shop in a large basket on his back, walking from farm to farm. They sold various useful things and even chicken like this sculpture shows. Near to the market and town hall of the Pekela’s this man keeps the local memory of his profession alive.
