PEAT DIGGERS
1986
SAPPEMEER, HOLLAND
3,50 X 2 X 1 METER
BRONZE AND RED COPPER ON CONCRETE

This sculpture shows Peat Diggers, waiting on a typical high bridge to be found in this region because the ships loaded with peat needed to pass under it. They have their typical long spades in their hands and so far all looks peaceful. But a closer look at them and their faces will reveal that they look like moor mummies. Why? Because life was hard for these people and they earned practically nothing.
