The Godwit is a protected species in this area of Holland, where the meadows below sea level have caused a special ribbon like landscape called the Slagenlandschap. This type of landscape is also visible in the structure of the stone base for this sculpture. The godwit is a travelling bird that comes here every year to build a nest in these meadows. In the past there was a littered situation of the property of land. Recently the distribution of land has been rearranged for the farmers to make their work more efficient. The structure of the bronze modelling refers to that littered land ownership. This typical meadow bird looks as if it is picking a worm or larvae from the meadow.
