ENTRANCE GATES
2002
BORGERCOMPAGNIE, HOLLAND
3,50 METER
STONE AND COATED STEEL

Entrance Gates was designed for the three border point of three villages at the spot where it is placed. Three columns are connected by a horizontal crown for which local elementary school kids drew their horizon which was cut out from the steel. In this way it connects the three horizons of the villages Sappemeer, Menterwolde and Veendam at this particular point. The entrances give access to the territory of each of these villages in the way they are positioned. Each column also points back to each of the three villages by its colour. White for Sappemeer, where in the past a mysterious lake showed mist and foam. Blue for Menterwolde because of a small nearby creek and brown for Veendam because it was the place where peat was dugged in the past.
